The Isosceles Stance is a two-handed technique in which the dominant hand holds the pistol or revolver while the support hand wraps around the dominant hand. Unlike the traditional Isosceles, one foot is placed further ahead than the other, but only just, with the knees slightly bent. The Modified Weaver, also called the Modified Isosceles or Improved Isosceles or the Chapman Stance, is a synthesis of the two. Forward-weighted or backward-weighted stances place most of body weight on either the rear or the lead foot, respectively. Unweighted stances are those where half of one’s bodyweight is on each foot. The gun is tensioned between the pull of the support hand and push of the strong hand.

What are the different types of shooting stances for a pistol revolver? Weak side shoulder is angled toward the target. Study the Weaver Position: Feet are positioned about shoulder-width apart, strong-side foot rearward about a step back. How are your shoulders aligned to the target in the Weaver position? The toes of both feet point toward the target, but the torso is angled slightly, minimizing the shooter’s profile. Resembling a traditional boxing stance, the Chapman stance positions the feet approximately shoulder width apart, with the knees slightly bent, and the strong side leg slightly to the rear. A good landmark is for the toe of the shooting foot to be at the instep of the support foot. His feet are shoulder width or slightly wider and the firing side foot is slightly behind the support side foot.

In the Fighting Stance, the shooter is square to the target.
